This book is part of the Native American First Books series. I wrote three books on different tribes, and one about powwows. The Maya of Mexico and Central America are an ancient tribe that build pyramids to the gods, and were the first people in the Americas to develop a number system using zero, and hieroglyphic writing. I visited remote Maya sites in Mexico many times, climbed their ancient pyramids, and swam in their underground waterways. The book highlights their advanced science, as well as the traditional ways that children were raised. It is a tribute to a still-vibrant culture. (Ages 10 and up)
